Photographers who are just starting out generally shoot photos the way that many tourists do. That is, they see a great photo opportunity and snap. There’s nothing wrong with this. However, if every photo is taken from the same height, the overall collection may be dull.
There’s a saying in the professional photography world that not everyone is five feet tall. What does this mean? It means that most pros will shoot from many different angles and heights. They might get down on the grass and shoot from a very low position, or climb a perch and shoot from a high position. If you try it the next time you’re out, you’ll see what a difference it makes.
This technique is used by cinematographers and TV cameramen, too. The next time you watch one of your favorite shows, notice the camera angles and how much more interesting things appear from a different point of view.
