Most Frequent Wild Animal Injury in Alberta

We traveled to the Alberta Rocky Mountains for a photo shoot and our tour guide asked us to guess what the number one wild animal injury is for tourists. That is, the most frequent injury that sends tourists to the hospital. Could it be encounters with a grizzly bear? Getting in the way of a female elk protecting her newborn calf? Perhaps a runaway moose? No…the number one wild animal injury is being bitten by ground squirrels and getting possible rabies as a result. The ground squirrels are so cute that many tourists get close to hand feed them.
